CoreTherm® is the only device on the market that utilizes intra-prostatic temperature monitoring. Prostate volume reduction of up to 30% is typically seen after CoreTherm® treatment with clinical outcomes that are similar to TURP.
CoreTherm® technology is based on the proven theory that in order to reliably achieve thermally induced tissue necrosis, specific intra-prostatic temperatures must be reached and maintained for a certain duration of time.
Studies have shown that the intra-prostatic temperatures need to remain above 50°C for tissue necrosis. (Bishof, et. al., Heat Sensitivity of Human Prostate Tissue: Implications for Thermal Therapy. Poster AUA 2003).
By measuring the temperature within the prostate, you can adjust the level of microwave power to achieve the desired therapeutic intra-prostatic temperature (50˚C- 60˚C). Tissue necrosis and intra- prostatic blood flow are also estimated and displayed on a computer screen to further guide you.
For a good outcome, it is important that the correct temperature is used for the therapy. This helps avoid unnecessary injury or under-treatment.
