AUA Symptom Score – The American Urological Association (AUA) has developed a method of evaluating and monitoring BPH symptoms, known as the AUA symptom score. The questions are rated from 0 to 5, with 5 being the most severe. Upon completion of the survey, the numbers are totaled; which help you quantify your BPH symptoms. Based upon these total numbers, BPH is classified as being mild (0-7), moderate (8-19), or severe (greater than 20).

BPH - Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate that can cause pressure on the urethra, making it more difficult to empty your bladder.

CoreTherm® Patient Specific Thermal Therapy for BPH - a unique patented method that measures the actual core temperature in the prostate during treatment and is a proven alternative to surgery and symptom-controlling medication. The overall aim of the therapy is to bring about a reduction of the prostate tissue nearest to the urethra and thereby reduce the symptoms and increase urinary flow.

Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) - The doctor will examine the prostate gland by inserting a gloved, lubricated finger into the rectum. This procedure allows the doctor to estimate the size and condition of your prostate.

Foley Catheter: A soft, flexible tube for allowing urine to drain from the bladder into a urine collection bag.

Nocturia - Waking up several times a night to urinate

Prostate- an acorn-shaped gland that is located in a man’s pelvic region. It lies below the bladder, the sac that stores the urine in the body, and surrounds part of the urethra, through which the urine passes from the bladder to outside the body. The primary function of the prostate is to produce seminal fluid.

Prostate-Specific antigen (PSA) Blood Test - Your blood may be tested for kidney problems or sent for a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level -- a screening test for prostate cancer.

Transurethral Microwave Thermotherapy (TUMT) - Treatment of benign prostate enlargement using targeted heat energy and catheters administered via the urinary tract to destroy enlarged prostate tissue and relieve pressure on the urethra. Treatment is performed in a urologist’s office or hospital outpatient setting.

Treatment Catheter - A flexible tube placed in the bladder through the urethra that is used to hold the probe for monitoring the temperature in the prostate and the microwave procedure device.

TURP (TransUrethral Resection of the Prostate) - an invasive surgical procedure, performed under general or regional anesthesia, involving an electrosurgical loop (resectoscope) that cuts away prostatic tissue to create an opening for the urine to pass through.

Urethra – the tube through which urine is passed from the bladder.

Urine Flow Study - also known as uroflowmetry, measures the amount of urine a person expels in a certain period of time, his or her bladder pressure, and the activity of the muscles used to urinate. A reduced urine flow can help to identify BPH.
