How is BPH Diagnosed?

• Medical History
• Prostate Exam
• PSA Blood Test
• Urinalysis
• Transrectal Ultrasound of Prostate
• AUA Symptom Score (survey)

The American Urological Association (AUA) has developed a method of evaluating and monitoring BPH symptoms, known as the AUA symptom score. The questions are rated from 0 to 5, with 5 being the most severe. Upon completion of the survey, the numbers are totaled; which helps you quantify your BPH symptoms. Based upon these total numbers, BPH is classified as being mild (0-7), moderate (8- 19), or severe (greater than 20).

The total will give you and your doctor a clear picture of how severe your BPH symptoms are affecting you. Click here to find out how you score.

No matter what your total score is, if you feel unsatisfied with the way your urination problems are affecting your life consult your urologist for a complete check up.
