Watchful Waiting

Your doctor may recommend a “watch and wait” approach in the initial stage when your symptoms are still mild. Remember, BPH cannot be prevented but it can be treated. You can treat the symptoms by trying prescription drugs or other minimally invasive treatments that use microwave energy. In most cases, severe symptoms are only reduced to moderate. Alternatively, you can decide to treat your problem with invasive surgery, or with CoreTherm®‘s microwave minimally invasive in-office treatment. In most cases, the most effective way to reduce your symptoms from severe to mild, is by treating the problem at the core.

Prescription Drugs

Prescription Drugs can be costly and require a daily life-long commitment. Most drugs used to treat BPH symptoms cause side effects, including decreased libido, impotence, dizziness and headaches. In many cases, prescription drugs lose their effectiveness after a while because the prostrate continues to grow. Eventually patients will have to have some other form of treatment.

Surgery

Surgery may be an option for patients whose symptoms have not improved with other treatments or for patients who are not candidates for the CoreTherm® treatment. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is an invasive surgical procedure involving an electrosurgical loop (resectoscope) that cuts away urethral and transition-zone prostatic tissue to create an opening for the urine to pass through. Laser therapy carries fewer risks than the traditional transurethral resection or open prostatectomy. However, both procedures are performed under general or regional anesthesia and may require a hospital stay. As with any invasive surgery, there is an inherent risk with anesthesia and more risks of complications such as infections and bleeding. Also, recovery time is longer with surgery than with minimally invasive treatments.

Minimally Invasive In-Office Treatment

There are several minimally invasive treatments on the market that use microwave ,or heat energy, to reduce the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. CoreTherm® is the only minimally invasive option on the market that offers treatment tailored to each individual patient and prostate. Ask your doctor about CoreTherm®, for a solution to your problem as individual as YOU. No anesthesia is needed and it can be performed in the doctor's office in 10-30 minutes for long lasting relief of BPH symptoms.
